"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."
-Oscar Wilde

Finished replica of Amon's mask from The Legend of Korra. Creating this mask was an entirely new process for me; instead of sculpting it by hand, I 3D printed a model I created in Blender.

I've bent mine almost in half without any damage to the mask, and chucked it across the room several times. It's pretty strong, especially considering how thin it is.

I'm thinking about buying one of these, I was wondering what you might suggest as the best way to secure it to the face? Elastic band?

yeah. I would drill two holes in the side and tie either some cord or elastic through them to secure the mask.

When I get one I'll likely try the elastic

the only thing about this mask is, how did you make it so smooth?
most 3d prints i've seen all have a pixel like blocky look to them all. did you just smooth down the surface?

I am guessing that most 3D prints you have seen are made on a FDM (fused deposition modeling) machine. RepRaps, DIY, and hobbyist printers are generally FDM. This mask was printed on a professional grade powder bed printer, so it prints smoother. There was some smoothing involved in making this mask, but not nearly as much as I would need if I printed it on a FDM printer.

My god, this is jawdropping, it looks gorgeous! I found a great Amon costume on ebay and this will be perfect to finish it off. Do you have any measurements for the small and large mask to tell which would fit better?

Thank you! I'm glad you like my mask

The small mask is 6.3" w x 9.2" d x 2.8" h (15.894cm w x 23.302cm d x 7.234cm h)
The large mask is 6.7" w x 9.6" d x 3.5" h (16.92cm w x 24.5cm d x 8.94cm h)

Hopefully that answers some of your questions C:
